Hello! I am starting to work in a new office, and I am currently looking to buy new headphones to use there.
Right now I own a Sennheiser HD380 Pro for home use, and a Sennheiser CX400-II for home. I love both (even if I see myself exchanging the CX400 for something else soon), but their sound isolation is too good to use on the office. I tend to focus very strongly on whatever I am doing on the PC, so with great sound isolation I tend to feel distant from the rest of the people there.
I am looking for something:
1-) Confortable - I will use them for very long periods of time
2-) Great sound quality - I listen mostly to Metal (Doom, Symphonic, Progressive, Power) and classical, but I tend to listen to different styles all the time. Not much of a basshead.
3-) Allow me to listen to the people around - My place is very quiet, even more than my home. I want to be able to hear people calling me, and maybe pick stray conversations around, but also not bother everyone around me with my music. I listen on moderate volumes, so I doubt it will be a problem.
4-) Under 100$ would be great, but I am willing to go higher if it seems worth it.
5-) Durable enough for about 5 years of more or less static usage.
I will feed them with a Fiio E7 connected to a iPhone. I don't care about portability, design is pretty much secondary. I tend to find big cans more confortable, but I am willing to try out new stuff anyway.
Oh, and I would like to see options outside of Grados. I live in Japan, and they are quite hard to find around here.
