My new gaming laptop's soundcard is seriously lacking, even more so than my previous laptop.  I need a device that will give me at least decent sound (use mainly M50s) and I'd also like it to have a simulated surround program like Dolby Headphone.

I'm open to any suggestions under $100.  The fiio E7 or E10 looked nice, but i don't know how much i'll would miss the cmss-3d or dolby headphone.

I've looked at portable usb sound cards like the Xonar U3 and X-fi Go, but the small size makes me worried about the sound quality and if the features it advertised are the 'real thing'?

A bigger sized sound card that connects with usb seems like the best fit, but there don't seem to be many.  Would this X-fi HD USB card be the best choice?  I read a thread here that said it did have EAX and cmss-3d, but at the bottom of the amazon link

http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-System-SB1240/dp/B004275EO4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

it says that it doesn't have these features.  i also read that it doesn't support 44.1hz music.  I don't actually know what the different sample hertz mean, but i see that a lot of my music is in 44.1hz...

edit: don't need it to be portable, i don't listen too much away from home, so i can bear the internal sound card then.

If anyone has some advice or up-to-date info on these products, please help, thanks.smile_phones.gif
