Noob Question: How Do You Wear SemiCircumaural Headphones?

Hello Everyone...

This may seem like a really noob question and just slap it on...

Where are the pads suppose to be positioned?

I find that for most headphones I end up wearing... either part of ears end up getting pressed against the inside part causing discomfort overtime. It's not like I have Elf ears or anything lol.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Alan

some earpads fit a bit wider than others... generally - the whole of the ear should be inside the pad - not *usually* smooshed. But everyones ears are different, and depending on which phones you have - fit can be a factor.

Semi-circumaural? What headphones do you have?

Grado bowl pads seem semi-circumaural sometimes, and the TMA-1 too.

I have tried a few Senneheiser and the Beats Pro and Audio Technica, and Grados

Some of the ear pads def don't look like they are suppose to fit your ear, but they re large that half my ear is inside it lol where it gets pressed against the harder/notplush mesh... becomes uncomfortable after an hour or so.

d'oh - missed the "semi"

Yes - usually called "supra-aural" - they sit on top of your ear, and if you wear glasses, or have sensitive ears, they can get uncomfortable. I try to center them - so the middle of the driver is in line with my ear canal... but sometimes comfort takes precedent.

Grado's in particular, some people have problems with, and the cartilage of the ear can press against the driver housing (the "cheese-grater" effect).

It's the same issue I have with the Phiaton MS400--they are almost big enough to be circumaural but not quite.  Every time I use them, it takes a few minutes to get them fit just right, where they are comfortable and sound good.  I tried tucking my ears in there, but that always ends up really uncomfortable after a while.
