Integrated sound on my laptop died, what exactly do I need to get?

Do I need to get an external sound card, or can I just get a DAC of some sort? I was using a cheap usb audio adapter, but that really didn't last that long and I'd like some sort of step-up if possible anyway. Thanks in advance, guys.

Asus Xonar U3 USB sound card.

What audio set up are you planning/running i.e speakers, cans or both? Under $100 for both i would look at stuff like the Fiio E10 for example tongue_smile.gif

I'll be using cans, HD555 at the moment, but I plan on upgrading those by the end of the year too. And yeah, the price point would ideally be about $100.
