Looking to replace Altec Lansing VS4121BLK purchased from best buy

Hello,

I've been happily using the Altec Lansing speakers for 2years now and heard there's better speakers for music listening and that's what brought me here.

I only spend 100$ for the speakers but i find the sound to be very clear and the bass very tight so im curious to see how other speakers can possibly perform better.

I've done a little bit of research which made me discover monitor speakers (ie the yamaha hs50m and hs80m) however i'm not sure if those are right for me because i don't record music i just want a nice setup for nearfield listening at low/medium volume

i listen to a lot of bass heavy music

also is an amp/dac required im not even sure what those are for lol

i'm not looking to spend more than 1500$

Whoa if u happy with those some decent bookshelf speakers and an optional good sub would blow you away tongue_smile.gif You can go T-amp, stereo/power amps of go vintage I take it the PC is your source and ya a good DAC is always a good investment especially once u move out of PC speakers

do the yamaha hs50m fall under the category of bookshelf speakers?

i've heard a lot of good things about them

Best is if you could audition/listen to speakers u keen on as pro/studio stuff tend to be unforgiving to the recorded music while certain hifi stuff tend to make music sound as good as possible to the ears not necessarily very accurate w.r.t pro/studio standard and so forth L3000.gif
