Repeating this, you would not convince him. He has his own ears.

Both are easily enjoyable, but when it comes to discerning musical information, the FA-003 is the better headphone.

+1, I couldn't agree more, most people these days here (other then the high end sub-forum) question or requests help choosing headphones and earphones for bass, electronic music, dubstep etc....keep in mind that not everyone here is into bass or have the same music preference as you, just because you find headphone A less fun and interacting then headphone B for Rap it doesn't make headphone A a bad can, it could be like art to someone's ears who would tend to listen to classic or neutral music without the coloration added to the sound. Its like some one using the AKG 701's for trance and electronic which they don't excel in that particular area but with vocals and classic they sound overwhelming.

akg k701s actually are pretty good for some type of trance. the less bassy more ambient type of trance. also good for chill-out music.

I never liked the K701 but given I can enjoy Psy Trance through my K500 you have to be aware that the bass only sounds as good as the producer intended it to sound (through your system). The set up (source + amplification) matters greatly.

Something I found very interesting: my cheap SHP5401 needed a bit of gain to open up. It still is no match for my K500 or Monitor 10 yet it means that each headphone has its own amplification requirements.

The SRH940, I might be able to audition it...

I agree as well. I personally think it's just an ideology. It's not like people who enjoy neutral music don't enjoy being engaged, it's just the mindset of knowing and hearing the neutrality of the music. Neither way is "better" and the quality of a can certainly does not depend on its ability to engage the listener.

Also, I love the sound of the AKG K701's (I own a pair of K702s) but I can't help but to think the bass just slightly toned down on it.

To be honest other then a slight housing change and cable being detachable or not I've never seen the difference between the 701 and 702.

some people claim there is a difference between 701 and 702. i doubt it. but if you change cables, you might hear a difference.

I own SRH 940 my self.. I really want to try HD 650 and compare the differences myself QQ
