Xbox 360 headphoning

Thread Starter

hey guys!

i just purchased a 360 to destroy my friends in mw3. i'm more of a battlefield fan, and am also a HUGE pc gamer. I have a pair of ad700's and was hoping to be able to use them to play on my xbox.

ad700

xbox 360 elite via hdmi

creative x-fi titanium (i dont not have the front module. so NO RCA inputs are on my pc. only digital or a line-in.

my main question is what is the better option: can i route my sound from the xbox to the computer and out through my headphones?

or should i just buy a Ear force DSS (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/audio-processors/ear-force-dss.aspx) or like-priced option. i want to have an immersive, yeah-right-like-you-could-ever-sneak-up-on-me experience so i figured i needed SOME kind of amplification/surround emulation going on.

i have the http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TEN2TO/ref=asc_df_B004TEN2TO1769610?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B004TEN2TO converter and run an hdmi cord to my monitor.

what would i need to make it work?? an optical cable? a red/white rca to line-in adapter?

Also, if i run it through my pc would the soundcard work its magic like it does on my pc games or would it simply play the sound 'as-is' with minor improvement

thanks in advance!

I doubt you can get your audio to go through your soundcard. Does your monitor or current speakers have an audio jack? If not, you can also hook up the headphones directly to the adapter you posted using some RCA cables and a RCA/3.5mm adapter but you would need to do volume control in game. Could also look into a Mixamp.

Theoretically, if you could run your Xbox audio through your soundcard, you should see if it's possible to use the Optical cable. This will transfer the sound unprocessed, and then your soundcard could "work its magic" as you say. I don't know if this option exists or is available to you--I'm just stating the theory.

What you can be sure of is that using the RCA cables will not be your best bet. RCA cables are analogue, so the 360 will have already processed them. It's not the worst, but it's definitely not 5.1 sound.

okay. so couldnt i put the optical cable from teh digital out on that adapter i posted...and run it to the digital in of my sound card?

then just plug my headphones into the soundcard and make sure that digital in is set to 'listen' or whatever.

or will that not work?

and what is a mixamp?? i'm not familiar...is it like the dss?

EDIT::::::: i see what the mixamp is now. what's the different between that and the turtle bay dss? looks the same to me haha :(

Like I said, in theory it sounds like it could work. But you're going to have to look it up yourself, or try it yourself.

DSS has no chat functions.
