Cheapest solid state dedicated headphone amps that can respectably drive the HE-6?

Thread Starter

By 'dedicated headphone amps' all I mean is I don't want recommendations for speaker amps to drive the HE-6? By 'solid state' I mean no valves (!).

We all know that behemoths such as the Ray Samuels DarkStar can drive the HE-6, but can anything significantly more sensibly priced cope adequately?

Some people have been recommending the Ray Samuels RSA 71-B - can that only drive the HE-6 balanced and not single-ended?

You can try this one through its speaker out, banana plugs.

You can also search for T-amps, they are inexpensive but sounds excellent with the 6. I have a DTA-100 T-amp and I like it.

Right now I'm scouring on-line for a better T-amp.

Budget is really important here. I'd say your best bet overall is to find a "vintage" receiver on ebay. I got a pioneer SX-990 on ebay for about $40 with shipping in really really nice condition. It really makes my he-6 sing.
