This is one awesome post! Amazingly well taken shots and an extremely reader friendly layout too. It looks like such a wonderful meet... I wish i lived in Japan too. ahaha! Still, thank you so much for sharing this

Mike's custom title should be along the lines of "Official unofficial audio reporter" until he starts to do this for money ;)

This is the main reason why I didn't bring a camera with me!! Mike, awesome report, I think you outdid yourself!

Also, thanks for uncovering the gem of a prototype that is the 1.3kg final audio monstruosity. I laughed so hard ;)

Looking forward to seeing you in spring ;)

About the RSA SR-71B and P-51 Mustang :-

That booth wasn't really selling stock RSA amps. The guy actually mods the SR-71B and P-51 Mustangs and sells them (as such the white sticker on the RSA amps which says "Oji Special"). I'm not certain if I understand his English correctly but apparently his mod "stabilises the power supply in the amp that makes the bass more stable" (in his words, interpret it anyhow you wish). He then resells the SR-71B for a whopping Y128,900. He puts up the stock and his modified (with sticker) versions for customers to compare. He supplied balanced cables if you wanted to use your IEMs.

Maybe someone who can read Japanese better can understand this :-

OMG I thought my love for japan cannot grow any further as being both an audiophile and an otaku, but your thread changed my mind!

btw is that transducer manufactured by Sony themselves? I never heard any other companies besides Sonion and Knowles (and another one I cant recall atm) that make this stuff.

@Mkubota1, I have nothing terribly witty or insightful to say other than... thank you for your coverage!  Great photos and equally great commentary.

It's a way of life there for most.  Public transportation mean portable devices are a must.  I think I saw fewer people using iBuds (still probably half) over there, but I didn't see anything really high-end out in the wild either.

To me, K1000s are bright as the sun.  =)  I'm probably not using the right words to describe.  Although, I did notice when trying the DT990s that while the 25 and 600 ohm versions sounded pretty much the same, the 250 sounded way different.  I thought maybe a bad sample or something but I had the same experience at another shop.  And I'm pretty sure it wasn't the PRO I was listening to.  I'm still scratching my head on that one.  =(
