AKG; k240-k141 monitor repair in nyc

Hi,

I'm having an impossible task of finding a repair service in new york city, (or anywhere), that

can repair the: akg; k240-k141 monitor repair in nyc.

I love these both, and have loose wiring after owning them since 2002, & stepping on the wire while

recording hundreds of times.

I really would love to keep them. They do not seem to be available anymore.

The new ones seem cheaper, (akg), lower ohms as well.

I somehow doubt they sound as good. If wrong i would love suggestions.

The 240s have been described as the industry standard, or whatever, and they are good.

I really need them repaired, and if anyone can recommend a service repair i would be thankful.

Also, any headphones that are very similar would be nice.

But from what i read online; posters, this is highly subjective. I don't wish to

stray. I basically use these for recording original music; pop/rock genre on a

tascam neo 2488-24 digital recorder.

I am not very technically minded and just lucked onto these back in 2002.

In my mind i equate high ohms with quality. I guess from what i've read low ohms means you

do not need an amplifier source for headphones?

In any event I see the new line of akg are a bit cheaper.

In 2002 i spent about $200.00 for these.

I plan on purchasing a backup pair as well as repairing the akg.

Do not wish to spend more than $300.00.

The others I was considering were the beyerdynamic dt 880 premium series.

Appreciate any advice.

Richard

i would highly try to get them repair first. none of newer AKG line-up can't touch their older discontinued stuff in my opinion. i didn't like their newer 701's much at all and if your accustomed to AKG's ''midrange'' status then most of them will disappoint but the K271 are really nice i thought(tried them at my colleges studio). they sounded like a gimped version of the 240DF and AKG made them to seem closer to their older legendary studio headphones but still not on the same level but still better then most their other newer current line up but that's just my opinion so taste varies.

if you don't want to wait for repair i suggest getting another used pair here on the F/S forums(if there is any. i haven't checked) or try ebay since i assume your using the monitors right? the monitors tend to pop up on ebay frequently for very cheap. if it's a loose connection it should be a very simple fix you might can handle but i guess they might need cleaning as well if the foam inside hasn't rotted away.

if not the beyer dt880 be nice choice as well but i suggest auditioning them first. if you don't have any place for headphones but a local guitar center you can audition them there as well cause they carry the top Beyerdynamic headphones besides some of shure and AKG models so you can have a better idea what you want. Shure 940 be something to look at as well. if they have it the fostex t50rp as well but i think guitar center don't carry fostex stuff anymore. mine did not too long ago.

They're a dealer but they should take your repair for a fee.
