Sennheiser HD595 - Worth Saving?

I am having problems with my HD595s. They were given to me about 8 years ago and I absolutely love them. They are used exclusively with my Xbox and an Astro Mixamp.

Recently, the left side of the headphones stopped working or, at least, the audio became very quiet, almost inaudible. Assuming I had inadvertently damaged the cable and ordered a replacement one. Now, having swapped out the old cable, the problem remains. Does that mean it is the driver?

I have checked a few reseller sites for suitable spare parts but can't find anything. Should I just cut my losses and get a new set ? Or maybe the PC 360 which is meant to be the HD595 with a mic? They can both be had for about the same price.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried the HD595 from a separate source, such as your Mp3 player? Is the left channel still low?

Yes, I removed the 3.5mm adapter and tried plugging them directly into a different device. Same problem, sadly.

Might be time for a new headphone when you weigh things up, 8 years is a decent run for a lot of headphones.

I think you're right. It might be a false economy to repair them now. Now all I have to do is choose between the 595s and the PC 360. Decisions, decisions...

Thanks for the advice!

I would believe (guess) the PC360 is a HD-558 with a built in mic.

I would assume Sennheiser stopped making the HD-595 when the HD-558/598 came out?

Even though the 598s probably sound better, the convenience of a built-in mic is hard to ignore.

I'm gonna go for the PC360 biggrin.gif

Just to toss one more idea out there if you want a built in mic.

This guy looks like it would fit and would give similar convenience.

Sennheiser's repair process is great... look into it, 60 dollars for a new set.

Hm, wondering if I should get mine sent in, it's developing some pretty major cracks in the headband...is that $60 for them to replace it entirely?  Would this mean they'd replace it with the new stock of 598s or what?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Just checked Sennheiser's support site. There's a flat fee of £34 to repair headphones. Amazing biggrin.gif

The ModMic looks ideal. Unavailable in the UK, though.
