That is categorically false.

Amazon is 256 kb/s, iTunes is 256 kb/s, and that makes up the overwhelming bulk of music files purchased online. Now, if we're considering illegal downloading, then you can find pretty much anything, but it doesn't take much effort to avoid low bitrate files.

I'm talking about the file sharing sites. Anyway, let's go back on topic.

I will admit that my local HMV is slowly but surely morphing from a CD store carrying admittedly horrible genres, to a Beats and iPod dock outlet. It is truly sad when I go to peruse their jazz section and see a single column devoted to it under "Specialist" music. Truly sad indeed. Oh yeah, did I mention they charge £300 for a pair of God d****d D2000s?

back off topic again, illegal file sharing websites usually have the rips in 320kbps mp3.
I've rarely seen anything else for download on filesharing sites. tat being said, I've only used them once or twice, I felt guilty for doing so. but I really wanted all the Muse Bsides.

The only website I download from are artists bandcamp pages, where the download is offered in 320kbps mp3, Flac, or anyother format you want, just gotta pick, they tend to cater for all.
