Looking for advice on Closed, over-ear headphones ~150$

I am currently looking for a new headphones to use on-the-go, desktop, pretty much anywhere.

I listen to any range of music from classical to dubstep so I'm looking for a very well rounded headphone.

I am looking around the 150$ price range but I am willing to go up to 225$ if it makes a big difference!

GO CRAZY. Thanks for your input in advance!

What do you listen to MOST? Dubstep and classical are completely opposite realms. Electronic stuff needs a really heavy hard hitting bass to sound good, while classical is best with a light, airy sound.

If you listen to everything about equally, take a look at the Fischer FA-003 (~$180). It's a great all-rounder, and closed.

Thanks for your input.

I listen more on the dubstep side so more bass-y type music.

The fischer looks a bit like on-ear rather than over-ear.

I have been looking at some Sennheisers just because I am familiar with them: Sennheiser 448, 428

But I might be looking for something better in terms of sound quality than these.

In that case I agree with Dsnuts; Ultrasones have some of the best bass and overall closed sound for the price. I would get the HFI-580 or the HFI-780. The 780 has stronger highs, while the 580 has stronger bass. I can't say for sure that one is better than the other, but I personally prefer the 580.

I've heard good things about these cans but I am not particularly a fan of how they look.

I read your post on the Panasonic RP HTF600... Do you recommend those for me? :)

The HTF600s are a fantastic bass heavy phone.,but the only issue with these is they leak sound and are more semi open than closed.. @ $40 or so for a HTF600 I suggest them to every one actually and will add nicely to your headphone collection.,but if you need absolute isolation these are not going to be for you they have sound vents on the outside of the cups that emit sound.

Not like an open phone and a tad less than a semi open one but they do leak.. If you require isolation the reason why I suggested the HFI-780 vs the HFI-580. The HFI-580/Dj1 are fantastic for dub/ trance but not so good for other genres. The HFI-780s have more detail and therefore a bit better for many genres vs just bass heavy tunes. Great phones and you will get your monies worth. What you got against the way they look?.. Trust me when I tell you this.. They look better/sexier than 99% of headphones I have. Portable,  will drive on anything and has chrome cups.. What not to like. Other closed phones like the M50, Shure SRH440,XZ700s.. None compare to the looks IMO.  If you walk around with these on I can certainly guarantee you, you will have audio enthusiasts that will give you the thumbs up and jealous looks of the Dre kids.

WhisperingGM.

What source(s) were you going to be plugging the headphones into?

CALs (Creative Aurvana Live) are closed, have a nice sound, good size for portability.

Most people using headphones in public would used closed headphones to block sound both ways.

Semi-open headphones are nice because there is a good chance you can hear danger, like a car coming at you before you are run over.

Panasonic RP-HTF-600-S, with Beyer EDT 200 Velour ear pads.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments.

Decided on getting a more expensive can after a couple weeks worth of research: Denon AH-D2000.

Hope this isn't a mistake!! :) Will update later!

Heh that's what I've been reading in almost every thread. :)

I found a buy.com marketplace (HiFiSurplus) vendor selling new for 230 so I grabbed it quick.

I read on one occasion that this vendor didn't respond to purchase so I was concerned but my transaction seems smooth so far.

Confirmation was received and it is on it's way w/ tracking.

Now I will wait what will seem like the longest shipping time ever.

Well you did your homework carefully. You get the real deal with the D2000s. That is a great cost for a new one..
