You're music is so good that you can't study while listening

So you got some new headphones/equipment/eq settings that makes you proud and you set out to get some studying like you always do with your tunes playing but that new sound just entice your attention into their ever luscious melodies and you spend an hour listening to the new things that you hear in your music before you realize it. Ever have that problem before?

It just happens to me...new equipment or not. There's a lot of my music that I can't listen to while trying to be productive simply because it's too in your face to be in the background.

I have plenty of Ambient stuff for being productive though.

I avoid listening to new material when I need to concentrate.

I actually find myself obtaining new material when I need to concentrate. Last time I had a long productive streak I bought some Juno Reactor to go along with it.

That would make me incredibly nonproductive. frown.gif

I find it a lot easier to tune out stuff I already know well; new stimulation requires more focus out of me.

+2 ambient for studying

A laid back headphone helps a fair bit. Most of my music is foreign, and it's not very distracting because most of the lyrics just fly over my head.

Sometimes when you need to go berserks mode studying, cue the rocky theme song hehehe.

I learned a long time ago not to play music while studying.

If only there were a way to turn off the cat. Food and toys only go so far.

Whenever I go for a run, my mom always asks why I don't have my iPod. The one time I tried running with music, I just gave up halfway through and sat down and listened.

*Your music is so good you can't ... *

My music library has been stagnant for forever.

No new material that's worthy enough to be played on my SR60...

/sigh

I find that I can have just about anything on if I'm very focused.  I remember when I was still living at my parents' house, I would have a movie and a record playing while concentrating on something that still required me to watch and listen to what I was doing.  I'd laugh at the funny parts of the movie, change the record before it ended, and get things done.

That was a long time ago.

These days I can still find that focus, on occasion.  Then, of those times, I'll realize a few good songs came and went on the playlist and I'll have to go back and listen to them.  The spell would then be broken and I'd be blissful music lover again instead of productive member of society.

I started at Law School this summer, and I quickly learned that listening to my usual tunes and studying just was not working. I tried without music, but just having my girlfriend sitting near me, typing on her laptop kept ruining my focus. My solution: I got hold of alot of classical music (Mozart, Chopin, all of that) - and it's working like a charm. I can leave it at a low volume, so that I am oblivious to what is happening around me, but still not have it steal my attention away from the books.
