Strange Sony D-34 Problem

Hey guys. I'm a newbie poster here, so I'll keep it short. Wonderful site.

I bought a Discman D-34 off the 'bay a while ago. When I got it, it was pretty banged up. I still tried to use it with the included AC adapter, and it strangely refused to work. It would try spinning up and would then fail. I declared it dead at that point.

Later however, I tried using it on batteries and surprisingly it spinned up without a problem. That leaves one more problem. The volume knob was smashed inside, and now floats around inside. Is it possible to refasten it to the pot it used to reside on? It and a little thing with metal contacts on it detached as well, and I have no idea how to get it back on.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The start up issue is probably something to do with bad capacitors in the power supply section(if you are too lazy to fix it I find sometimes just keep pressing play works it give some extra time for the bad caps to charge up).

Volume knob issue I have no idea.

The d34 is an non over sampling version of the d33.With it's powerful ouptput, It's a cheap solution instead of buying an amp for beginners.

If you fail in repairing your d34 you should find a cheap d33. It used to be very cheap and plentiful and very good at driver beefy fullsize headphones

I thought as much. I ended up sending it back to the seller for a refund.

I didn't know that about the D-34. In your opinion, is that a positive or negative thing as compared with the D-33?

Since I returned that one, I'm on the hunt again for a desk-top CD player. The D-33 and 34 both look good, what are the differences in sound between them?
