How its going with you? how do you find the sound (forget about the menus, slowness,........)

I'm a sceptic here, probably will have either low processing performance/ battery life issues.

Low processing performance ? What were you planning to run on this thing - NASA ?

Look, functionally, the T51 is a total piece of shinola - we need to be clear on that - but once you do get it playing a video or some music, it has plenty of 'processing power'. I read a lot of crap about the low resolution screen, but anyone who is serious about watching movies on a screen that small needs to see a mental health professional - for my purposes, I dont know any other device where I can rip a Flash movie straight from YouTube and put it on my PMP, then play it without a single glitch.

Yes, battery life is crap - use the thing for the duration of a workday and it will need to spend the night on the charger - but I completely reject your 'low processing performance' line. I'm not a skeptic - I readily acknowledge that its an 'exquisite sounding piece of junk' as one wit described the HM-601 - but at least I can say that from the POV of someone who actually went out and bought the blasted thing.

I couldn't have said it better myself 'exquisite sounding piece of junk' , still we only bought it to enjoy our music to the fullest , not be concerned about power, processing...., just enjoying our music, check this article:

Just saying that it will be pretty slow(even while searching.) Pretty hard to believe that such a tiny device will be able to pack much power into it while still sounding awesome. Will be looking forward to the impressions though. Anyways I don't really know how to read the datasheet but here is the max9723 datasheet.

I guess that "searching" won't even be available... My first mp3 player was a Mpman with 128mb of memory, and the browsing was ok. It's not like this little player is aimed at searching into 160 gigas of music. Browsing files doen't require a lot of power...

Some new pics

I appreciate the effort you guys are putting into this, and photos of new kit normally make me want to dash out and buy it, but those images do absolutely nothing for me. I really hope it sounds considerably better than it looks.

it looks really neat. even at the lack of SD I might be interested if it sounds good enoug and doesnt go over $50...

I'm must say I'm quite interested. From the looks of it its real value is in its ability to drive the headphones that can get loud enough with a standard dap but don't sound good; the "border" headphones.

90mW on high gain and 50mW on lo gain is a lot of power from a DAP. While it can't beat out dedicated portable amps, being able to take that lower end grado out and drive it HO so that it will have all the benefits it needs -bass, extension, openness etc- is really cool.

I love my refurb 80gb iPod 5.5g that I bought this year and rockbox has been a godsend, but its so incredibly weak with its measly 30mW+30mW into 16Ohms that I have difficulty using it. That's half the power of the newer Classic and as such it needs an amp -which I don't have. I usually take out my Classic when I want to use a slightly more demanding headphone and it gets the job done.

To me it doesn't matter whether or not it sounds better than the clip+, its a matter of it sounding as clean with such a high drivability. That is convenience; players rarely have that kind of power and getting it for $57 is a good deal. For the same I could get the Fiio E11 and probably even power my K271 MKII properly from my 5.5g but would I use such a large setup as much? Not likely.

I just hope this player can power those slightly harder to drive headphones in real world use like its specs suggest.
