New to portable, amp worth it in this scenario?

Thread Starter

So I am new to portable audio but not headfi in general(run a GDaudio Cpmpass to Denon D7000's as my home rig).

So I have been listening to my ipod classic at work for 3-4hrs a day recently, so decided it was time to look into some IEM/buds. I went ahead and ordered some MEElectronics A151 today (didnt want to break the bank, while just getting my feet wet) based off of some quick reading. May look at grabbing some Brainwavz M2's soon also to compare the dynamic sound to the BA sound to find out what I like. So my question is.... Is an amp really necessary or worth the cost, or will I be fine with just using the ipod to power them?  If there was a cheaper way to bypass the internal DAC I would be looking for a portable amp/DAC for sure. If the answer is yes, than I was eyei balling something simple like the Fiio E11.

Thanks in advance!

It depends on you, if you're happy with listening to your headphones, then there's no need. If you want a more 'bang', then get an amplifier. But once you go with an amp, there's no turning back. darthsmile.gif

I would say the ipod should be enough, but the amp is so cheap you could go with an e7 or e11
