REVIEW – Audeze LCD-3 planar magnetic headphones - Page 8

Thank you Skylab for the wonderful review!

You can do it with any job as long as you have your own office room, due to the nature of open headphones.

Thanks for the review.  Got more pics of the LCD-3 with your rig?

I kinda remember you reviewing the HD800 and although it wasn't the first time people mentioned negatives on the SQ (see: CJ LA impressions thread), or the most harsh review of the HD800 (see: that "twisted" review, I think GuyDebord wrote it), I'll give you credit that it was critical.  I'm still not convinced that what I said isn't true, though.  I didn't say you've never said anything negative ever, it just seems to me the vast majority of your

your agenda is clear if its not a Stax product your going to attack. As for the R10 comment if Rob prefers the LCD3 over the R10 then that is his opinion. he done more for this community than any other member. The review was well written and had enough information in it to explain what he liked and did not like. he brought out the shortcomings and weakness of the LCD3 with soundstage and imaging.  I have heard the Leben amp in my home and IMO its a great amp and have not heard the other amps he used but the Leben delivers the goods. as for experience in writing reviews Rob has enough of that and his reviews are very informative.  as for the flaming on headcase about his review here in his opinion the LCD3 delivered for him and he ex pressed it in the review.

Not really, no.  About the same, best I can tell, although on some amps I had to turn the volume a little higher on the LCD-3 to get the same level (as measured by my SPL meter), so I would say that the LCD-3 might even be marginally harder to drive.

Skylab, great review. I always find you very constructive and informative. I like your writing style and the way you approach the matter when you write about it.

1 will you be doing anything with changing the tubes on Leben?

2 is the stock cable good enough or will thre be a considerable change in a custom made. Or is it just a head thing :)

Thanks! I had tube rolled my Leben extensively when I got it, and I think the tubes in it (GE 6BQ5 and Raytheon windmill-getter 5751) are an outstanding pairing.

I did not use the stock cable at all.  I'm so familiar with my aftermarket cables that I wanted to stick to those.  So I really can't comment, but I personally don't believe that cables make such a huge difference in terms of sonics that it would be a deciding factor.

I think what n3rdling wants to say is, Skylab could improve his reviews by comparing the dynamics to Stax. o2smile.gif

Rob does not own Stax and he compared it to the headphones he owns.

Very interesting. With the thinner diafragm I had thought they'd be easier to drive. Not that my amp can't handle it, though.

Skylab, I note in your review that you had the stock LCD-3 cables, the ALO and Q cables while assessing the LCD-3.

Is there a quantifiable difference in sound between these cables? Which cable sounds best on the LCD-3 in your opinion?

Would appreciate your honest opinion on this as I'll be in the market for a cable upgrade for the Audezes.

So its a rather dangerous statement to make that "its the best headphone i've ever heard" .  While the statement is true it can give the wrong impression.

Also when you talk about electrostats its not just Stax but also Sennheiser.  I know they are not current, but like the Sony-R10 they can still hold their own today with the new kids on the block.
