Recommend me a pair headphones - Page 2

I'm currently enjoying my HD555s.  They have sufficient bass for my purposes, are easy enough to drive, and have a marvelous soundstage.  Haven't tried any of the other recommendations though, so I can't compare them.  If you decide to get a DAC later on for your laptop, the E10 is a good choice.  It's already released (I have one) and it has good synergy with the HD555.

Another vote for the HD555! What headphones did you choose between when you got them? Have you tried any other ones lately that you can compare them to?

They were a bit of an impulse buy while I was waiting for my FA-011s.  I was looking for something with a more neutral sound signature to complement the bassier Fischers.  I didn't audition them, or anything else for that matter, ahead of time, but I was deciding between the HD555 and the Sony MDR-V6, and sort of waiting for the FA-006 review to come out.  I got bored waiting for LFF to release the FA-006 review, and the V6 didn't sound like it would fit my needs as well as the HD555.  They were also roughly the same price for me because I got the 555s for half price refurbished.

Nothing really to compare them to, though that will change by the end of the week when the FA-011s (and possibly some Koss Pro DJ100s) arrive.

Interesting! Would you be so kind as to give me a comparision when you get them? :)

Sure.  The FA-011s should be here in the next 2-4 days, but the DJ100s (which will probably be a closer match to the HD555 in sound signature) haven't shipped yet, so I don't know when those will arrive.

How about the Denon d-1000? Will the soundstage be too tight?

Is the Koss Pro DJ100 similar?

Would the AKG K240 fit my needs?

Just because they are so legenday: the Grados SR60i?

Are there any other competitors?

Thanks!

Any input here will be helpful and greatly appreciated!

Apart from the E10, is there any other DAC/amp that I can consider?

3D imaging on the SR60? Nope, not gonna happen.

FA-011s came in today.  Compared to the HD555, they have significantly more bass and are more forward with the mids.  My initial impression is that, between the two, the Sennheisers are best for laid-back, long term listening, while the Fischers are very fun to listen too, but could get fatiguing after a while.  The Senns are also more comfortable.  The FA-011s definitely need an amp (E10 is plenty), while the HD555s can be driven from your laptop, though they sound better out of the E10.

UPS says the DJ100s will be here Monday, so I'll update you again then.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Depends on your price range.  In a similar price bracket, there's the uDAC 2, FiiO E7 (portable), Headroom Total Airhead (portable), Nuforce Icon (portable), and possibly the Creative Titanium HD USB.  There's lots more, but these are the ones that I usually see recommended (or derivatives of them in the case of the Airhead).

Is the E10 lacking any features that you need?

Hi, and thanks for the input

The HD55 really seems good since I want to be able to listen at a very wide spectra of genres with high comfort, and also they will from what I understand sound better unamped as well. The only negative thing that I see in the E10 is that it's not portable, but I'm going to use this setup for listening at home so I guess it's no problem. Can I use any other power source than the laptop with the E10 or do I need to stay close to an UBS port even if I run it with the clip+?

The only drawback to the E10 is that it has no line-in jack, so you can't use it with anything other than your computer.  In other words, you can't play your clip+ through it.  Something like the nuforce Icon, iBasso D Zero, Headroom Total Airhead/Bithead, FiiO E7, or anything wit ha line-in feature might be a better choice.  How much are you looking to spend on an amp/DAC?  If you're only trying to make sure that you have enough juice to power the HD555s, I can tell you that my S9 powers them just fine through the FiiO E6, and could probably run them unamped, but I need a different 1/4" adapter to try that out.

Hi,

Aw, that's too bad. The E7 looks good tho, and that has line in? I'd definitely like to stay below $100 for the amp
