I just wanted to check if you guys are familiar with the term, or genre, called chillwave. I just discovered this whole bunch of incredible music labeled, or partionally labeled, under this genre.
It started out wiith Flume, an EP lacking artist who had some vids on youtube. This led me to the album gold panda - lucky shiner. I was immediately addicted to the off-beat, melodic and boundaryless style which makes his music very emotional and intimate. So after a day listening I showed is to some of my friends who all thought it sounded like crap. Nevertheless I went looking for similar artists and then I found Baths - Cerulean (named after a city of the pokemon series I thinkXD). I was BLOWN AWAY by this album. I like gold panda for his down to earth approach, which might be the britsh thing to do, Baths however totally hypnotised me with his music.This album is like opium. I have had this feeling with music only a few times before. The feeling that you become one with the music you will. You think and breath the music, you're practically in love with it. This is the aspect of music that makes me spend all my money on audio equipment.
This feeling was lost a long time ago with my original music and I had given up hopes I would achieve it again. So since I have been inflicted I have been searching the internet for similar artist and I found the genre "chillwave" which is the one of the, if not the, most inspiring thing ever. Artists like "Neon Indian" and "Toro Y Moi" are superb. Then I was thinking like, in the '60 you had rock, in '90 you had hip hop and know we have...Rihanna?! And I thought chillwave should be the next big thing:P. That was when I found out the summer of 2010 should have been the mayor breaktrough for the genre dominated by one man artists making music on a laptop in a dark room on the atic. It didn't happen however and the whole phenominal almost slid past my attention. Now that I have found it I want to share it with you, it might take some time to get used to but that's with all the good music:P, paying some attention to some artist who deserve it. I might just be able to breath some life in this genre.
For the people who already know this type of music: I would love some sugestions for more innovating music, spread the chillwave:D!
