FS: Soundlab Millenium M3 Electrostatic Speakers. (UK)
Will Ship To: EU
Hello Head-Fiers!
Something very special for anyone in the UK, because over here Sound Lab speakers are as rare as hens teeth because of the predominance of Quad.
Millenium M3 in excellent condition (some minor blemishes, see photos). I am the second owner and have had them for approximately 2 years of light use. The first owner had them in storage for approx 80% of the time he had them (his house will full to the brim with hi-fi). They are not just the best speakers I've ever owned but the best I've ever heard. i am selling them because I cannot now justify keeping them due to space constraints.
Full range electrostatic speaker, if you think an ESL hasn't got any bass, then you've only been listening to Quad. The backplates have been upgraded to allow for biamping or biwiring (biamping with Sound Labs is good, the more power the better), using Cardas binding posts. There are no ripples or holes in the membranes and there are no tears or nicks in the grilles. They come with carpet glide feet (threaded and justable to level the speaker). Spiked feet are available from Sound Lab. These speakers are amp-killers though with a massive capacitive load and an impedance curve which looks like a rollercoaster. I would advocate an unconditionally stable amp like a Quad 909 (or reconditioned 606/707) as the absolute minimum. An Innersound or Sanders Sound ESL amp would be superb though. There is one of those available from Emporium HiFi in the UK at the minute. Their last asking price on Ebay was £1000. This is only a little more than a new Quad 909!
Potential buyers are welcome to audition them, but I cannot let you hear them sing at their best because I have already downsized my power amplification to an 80watt integrated and because the room is no longer set up to accomodate the speakers first.
I cannot simply post these. I have all of the original packing crates in storage, but boxed up or not these are huge speakers (nearly 6 feet tall) and the backplates are very heavy as well. Buyer must organise pickup by a courier who will need at the minimum, a Ford Transit or Mercedes Sprinter in order to fit them in. I am also willing to deliver them myself so long as the buyer pays the cost involved (I will have to hire a van and charge by the mile).
I am theoretically open to some kind of trade. But it'd have to be a very impressive offer.
