Grado RS2 price question

with the introduction of the "i" series, what is a fair price for a used RS2 (non "i") nowadays?  been thinking about upgrading from the 225i

I would not pay more than $400 or an RS-2 or RS-2i.

The RS-2 does improve on the 225 sound as does the RS-1.  Due to comfort and expense reasons I would have to recommend trying a pair of DT990s.  If you use them with portable devices the 25 Ohm version and if you use them on your home rig the 250 Ohm version.  They have a similar sound signature, but are much more comfortable and extend into the bass better.  A brand new DT990 runs $329 tops and really sound amazing.

hmm, thanks NA.  I need to get a chance to audition some of the beyer offerings.  I believe I heard a pair of 880's once, and was impressed.  but that was a while ago.  less than 400 for the grado's you say.  hmm.

yeah, the ps500 is out of my range.  I could only go used on a rs2.  cant find a lot of used price info in the for sale section.  But I'm trying to get a bit of a map.

You need to look at eBay, not just here.  I got a pair of RS2i's for $370 from eBay.  Bought for someone for Christmas, they listened to them for 20 hrs or so, decided they didn't like them.  Brand new condition.  smile_phones.gif

Btw, I really think the DT880's are closer to the sonic signature of Grado than the 990.

has anyone sited the differences between the rs2 and 2i?  I cant seem to find any reviews.

Grados and Beyers in the same sentence? Grados have forward mids, Beyers have recessed mids. Did a couple searches here because I am interested in the RS2(i) as well. There seems to be split opinions. Some say there is a dramatic improvement and others say there is no improvement. I would say if you can afford the "i", then do so so you don't wonder what you are missing.

The DT880's do not have recessed mids IMO.  The 770's and 990's do.

Getting a pair of DT-990's (250) Ohm today and going to compare them to my DT-880's and Grado 325is. I also have been enjoying my older pair of Senn HD600's lately.
