Alternatives to Little Dot mkIII

I'm looking for my first dedicated hp-amp. Currently my shortlist contains just 1 amp (because I don't know anything about hp-amps): Little Dot mkIII.

The price of the Little Dot is the maximum I want to spend on such an amp for now. I just want to know what difference such amps make, compared to headphone outputs on pre- and integrated amps.

As far as I could figure it out the Little Dot mkIII would cost me about €175 incl. shipping. So, lets say that is the absolute top limit of my budget.

A portable amp will drive headphones as well. What headphones do you have?

This one will be for my AKG K-601.

You can get a portable amp, such as an iBasso, RSA, etc.

Solid state amps are usually cheaper and more reliable, but harder to repair, compared to tube amps.

Tube amps add "warmth" and "soul" to sound.

On eBay they sell single tube headphone amplifiers, starting at $50, ships from China.

I like the Indeed brand, but most brands will do the job, price range $50-$120.

Usually you need to adjust the voltage with a digital multimeter (DT830, $6-$10) to bring out their best.

They make a good "starter" tube amplifier.

I've changed my mind about this. I have a pre-amp that's driving these K-601's really well and I've bought an extra pair of HP's (lower imp.) for the applications where the K-601 wasn't driven so nicely.

This means the AKG can stay at home, connected to my pre-amp. There's no real need for an amp anymore. (I rather spend my money on music instead )

Wise choice. Use what you have.
