You may want to also check out the HRT Music Streamer II+, here is a link comparing it to the DacMagic.  Seems to be a really good dac.

I don't like two things about it at that price point.

1. USB only. I'd rather have something that can accept multiple digital signals (S/PDIF, Optical/Toslink, USB, etc.)

2. I'd much rather have the option of balanced outs, by the time I'm paying that much. With only $100 difference between them, the features offered by the DacMagic are a huge benefit.

Yeah it would be much better if it had more inputs, I agree.  I don't really like the look of it either.  I much prefer the look of the Marantz SA8004 you listed or the Marantz NA7004.

I would love to have it then a Burson but assuming I buy them new, it'd be just over my budget. As for the other cans, I have considered some of them, I've tried both the Senn and the Grado, not a big fan of either. I guess I know what I want out of my cans and would rather get one sound done well rather than multiple sounds done okay.

Ninja,

You seem to be in the same situation as me:

I have a couple of good amps, a good set of cans and would like to upgrade by getting a better DAC.

I would also like to get another good set of cans, for me either a set of grados or Beyer DT880.

Do you think the Beyer DT880s are a good alternative to your AKGs?

I'm sure you have already figured this out but for $1,000 you could get an rDac or equivalent and a Dark Voice/La Figaro 336.
