Custom colored HD 800 - Page 8

So.. looking at the sample pics.. I see this one:

small-1.jpg

which has black metallic on the sides of the red headband section.. though I see no choice for this area.

This image appears to have the standard matte black sides:

edit: Was looking at it wrong, here's a better shot of the first one.

Now wait, does anyone know the average cost of these paint jobs? Can't seem to really tell since they don't list their rates. For the HD800 there seems to be no charge but the others have at least a good $200 on them.

I called Colorware this morning to inquire about custom painting my HD800 and I was told they are no longer painting pre-owned 800s.  They are only selling new custom painted HD800s.  I guess they have been out of that business for 4 months.  If this was previously mentioned in this thread, I must have missed it.  Too bad, I would have placed an order.

This is amazing; I just spent half an hour drooling over the possibilities.

Is this an exclusive HD 800 thing? Do other places offer such services with other cans?

I guess with the paint job, will have less paint chipping......

Like the  black, so many options

Correct.  My white daily driver is parked outside.  My special black car is garaged.  No swirling people!

Doesn't that just mean that scratches in black cars are more noticeable than white? Because AFAIK, there's a clear coat on top of the color.

Everything is more noticeable on black cars.  Plus there are automotive black paints that do not use any clear coat!  Tap an edge and a chip of paint falls off a lot easier.  Leaves a nice white or grey speck of primer underneath.

The fact is black paint is softer than white and will scratch easier, it is measured w/ a tester known as a durometer or something similar.  Hardness is a separate issue from the reflective properties of black versus white paint.  Every color has a hardness value.
