This is madness!

Here are some pics.

The last picture here is what first made me hesitant of the headphones being real. Would yamaha really send them out of the factory with a patchy decal like that? Plus the machined "grooves" are pretty defined. Not sure how others compare.

As I am listening to them, the treble is sharp, defined and have a solid mid. They honestly just lack the rumble, punch, and sub bass that I was expecting to find in a well rounded headphone. Its not entirely absent, its just not enough to satisfy.

Its sad that I am potentially "burning in" a pair of fake EPH-100. FML.

Also, the sound that you are describing is typical of an improper seal.  What size tips are you using?

I suspected improper seal also. I am currently using the medium tips that came on the IEMs. After 2 or 3 minutes of disappointment my first thought was maybe I'm not getting a proper seal and tried swapping them for the Large tips. The large tips for sure felt unnaturally big. The medium feels like I can insert it in my ear and have a decently snug fit. Even the ear tips seems very soft and squishy compared to the tips on my S4i. I've taken some pictures and am waiting for moderator approval!

I really appreciate everyones input, and will certainly "politely" enquire... with the seller...

Bad sign that you got a fake. The real one is firm and stiff. The fake just squished inside your ears no matter the size you chose - then, you'd never good seal / fit.

+1 exactly as how I would describe them. Mushy, thin, soft. So PROBABLY fake ear-tips, which would lead to PROBABLY fake ear monitors.

This is awful as a new guy onto the scene I've been waiting a few weeks to try these bad boys out, and feel like I have been duped.

I guess its my fault for buying off eBay. Seriously still confused why amazon.ca is selling them for $269.61. Even Amazon.com is selling for 139.99. I have successfully ordered off eBay prior, so I figured I was safer than I was.

It happens to me when I received the "fake tips" from a head-fier who had similar fit problem like you described. I also experienced the same horrifying fit problem and questioned how the fit was different compared to my real EPH-100's ones. So, I compared the fake with my "real" EPH-100 tips to prove others that the fake ones are squishy but they thought I was crazy. Look up the post I did: http://www.head-fi.org/t/577712/yamaha-eph-100/3540#post_10094757

Did your yamaha package come in legitimate packaging?

Don't worry mate.  In the case that your findings unfold to the undoubted conclusion that you got a fake item, eBay will back you up.  In fact, it is eBay's policy that you don't even have to return fake items in order to discourage sellers from trumping someone else with the same item that you got.  So, sleep peacefully and follow the process.  More research comes first, then the conclusion, and then something else.  But, if you got a fake, you are covered if you don't delay your actions on eBay procedure's for handling fakes.  And you still got plenty of time for that matter.

Let them burn in properly and you will see, they will shine in every aspect, as they are the best Allrounder in this Price class.

They look okay but...I'm about to compare mine to yours and post edited feedback.

Sub-bass on the EPHs is quite good. Once sealed they bloom beautifully.

Something else that you ought to know, is that if your previous IEMs have more bass than the new ones, then your brain/ears is going to find the newer pair lacking in bass quantity.  You have to go through a period of brain adaptation to the amount of bass that your IEMs have.  The WOW factor disappears to a significant extent after you get used to big bass earphones.  The disappointment bass factor disappears to a significant extent after we get used to earphones with less bass than we are used to.

SO, AFTER QUESTIONING THE EBAY SELLER, HERE IS WHAT HE HAD TO SAY:

Dear, Camalisue

The earphones Yamaha you have is Authentic. I tested before I brought it from my supplier. he told me they're are Authentic. and I even using it myself and surely it is original. I brought from him a lot so he gave me a good price. but the Yamaha was made in china. the quality control might not so good, may be because of this quality control cause the logo on one side of your earphone is extremely faded and an obvious discoloration, also as ear tips of the Yamaha you have.
the new batch of eph100 the ear tip is softer then the older built, that's what I know.

The sound signature of this eph100 is best in high and mid. high is very sparkle. and the mid sound is natural. but the low is well control, over all sound should be natural and sparkle of high. it is not bass heavy earphone. you can adjust the equalizer of your mp3 player to have more bass. also have you tried the process called "burn in" the earphones. you can use white noise or pink noise and play in loud arround 40 hours. it can improve the sound quality of the earphones as well.

However I never have problems with other brand earphones I sell, it seem that Yamaha quality control is not very good. I am very sorry that you have these problems. but I can assure you there is nothing wrong of sound quality of your earphones.

If you still don't like it and want to return please send it back, I accept the return or exchange

Sincerely and Regards
Pithak

Sooo I will burn them in, and keep listening... and if I'm not satisfied he will give me a return or exchange! Excellent news.

Hopefully everyone can see the pictures okay?

I uploaded them via Photobucket because I was trying to bypass the head-fi image uploading.... then post required moderator approval anyways. :o2smile:

Can anyone recommend some single flange silicone tips that fit the EPH-100 appropriately? MEELECTRONICS seem to have a wide selection... are there any specific ones that pair up?

Yes. I use the RadioShack Auvio tips. Fit fine. Stay in place. Don't slide and great seal.

Like these? Seems like I would get a few different size tips.

Canada used to have RadioShack but it turned into The Source: By Circuit City, so I will have to order them online.

Yes. Like those. And they sell them in size packs of three pairs as well. They're exceptional.
