Final JH3A revision Impressions - Page 5

I'm hoping more JH-3A owners can post descriptions of the sonic differences between the JH-3A amp and other top portable amps, such as ALO Continental v2, Rx Mk II and III, RSA gear, etc.  As an owner of JH13's who is very pleased with the sound from the Continental v2, I'm curious if the JH-3A provides a game change over that amp, or is perhaps just a different sound signature but in a similar league.  Maybe I'll need to wait until more JH-3A owners attend meets and can try their JH16's with other amps.

Having now got the JH-3A out, I wonder if Jerry has had so much pain with this product that he will retreat back to the "just IEM" world, or if he plans to continue to improve amp/IEM pairings.

Hi, i just ordered the JH-3A.   I was going to get just the JH16 as I will mostly use on the go with an iphone but decided to get the amp version with the mini-jack adapter.

I have a question:  I want to use the 3A amp with my macbook. Most people have said that the SPDIF input is better than the USB input. I see the Halide Bridge usb-spdif connector out there. What connector would I need to get the bridge to the 3A amp?   Is there a cheaper option out there?

Does anyone recommend the Whiplah twang silver replacement cables for these?

I am listening to the Jha3A  with Ibasso DX100 with a moon audio black dragon coax cable to connect the two.

What really strikes me about the 3a/16 combo is the dynamics & slam,incredible bass ,Vocals take on a solid almost a holographic form.

After the 3a has been on a while headstage seems to widen & deepen.

The Dx100 is a great player on its own ,You can use the 16s with the adapter cable without the 3a,Double win in my book.

One down side my cables are greening without any sound degration that I can notice,I may look into the Whiplash or as Drew about making a BlackDragon cable.

Still. I'd love for them to actually let us know! Curious as to whether I should ditch the whole new amp & dac spree and just get the JH3a upgrade for my JH16s.

I should have mine in about 3 weeks and I will post my impressions. Hopefully some will post up, even with a simple love it or hate it, nothing fancy.

When I ordered mine two weeks ago they only offered the black cable and said they did not offer the clear one with the combo anymore. I am also looking at the Ibasso DX100 but may wait to see what the new hifiman 901 has to offer. The ibasso seems to have everything I am looking for and maybe needs one or two more FW upgrades to get me to hit the add to cart button. The 901 is supposed to appear at the Tokyo headphone festival on May 12. Hopefully more details about its specs will surface.

Don't know about this. It seems to me when someone on Headfi finds that "right partner", they CAN'T WAIT to tell the world how great it is (and show their good taste and discernment in the process  ).

My suspicion is that, after many months of angst, accusations, rumors, recriminations and browbeating leading up to the final version being shipped, it was sort of anti-climatic when it actually happened and everyone was just burned out posting about things JH3a.

It a shame considering the still-unique nature of the product and it's potential as a top top-tier IEM that now that it could be fairly assessed and compaired to the competition everyone has dummied up...

I had Craig at Whiplash make me one of his Eclipse Twag2 cables for the 16s/3A system (for my JH13s too) and they sound so much better than the stock in all departments to my ears.  I bet Drew can do as good a job.  The BlackDragon cables he has made for me have been just brilliant.  I guess what I am saying, is if you can afford to get custom cables, I would suggest you do.  (I suppose this now means we're going to hear from the cables-make-no-difference-and-it's-all-a-placebo-effect-so-you're-wasting-your-bloody-money crew!)

I had to have some small adjustments made to my 16s (for which I used new impressions) and when they came back with a much better fit and seal, like you, I'm loving what I am hearing.  I have now stopped looking for any other portable rig possibilities because the JH3A is that good......for me.

Do you get your JH3A yet?  I'm waiting for your review.  Love it, Hate it or anything in between.  I have been debating for this setup since it first release but there are many thing that derail my decision and put me in the wait and see mode.  Also as other member said in this thread, seem like there aren't many owner mention anything about this.  Is it because it is not that good so they don't want to talk about it? or It is that good and they won't have time to come here to headfi anymore.

It will be 6 weeks this Friday which is their max time for production. I am hoping to have it by next Friday which will be 7 weeks with one week for shipping. If it wasn't good people would be complaining as it is almost $2000 with ear impressions and shipping and over two if you get the adapter, which I did. If it is bad I will definitely let you know.

Although my credit card statement says otherwise I am wondering if i really ordered it. Between reading about it and a ton of other iems/amps, then finally pulling the trigger it has been a really long time. Probably long enough that my ear canals have changed shape and my hearing has degraded by a couple percent.
