Banana Plugs to computer

Thread Starter

I just bought the klipsch rb-51 speakers for my computer. But I did not think about this beforehand...the speakers use banana plugs.

So anyone know how I can hook these up with my computer? What kind of cable/connectors do I need to get? Or do I have to get some kind of dac/receiver?

You will need a receiver or integrated amp to run these speakers.

be careful of speaker wire termination methods on amp/receiver as well - spring terminals do not accept banana plugs beerchug.gif if in doubt just use bare wire hehe

thanks for the replies but i still have no idea what to get... just any receiver will do? I also dont want another bulky object on my desk, kinda running out of space here :(

Yes, most receivers will work. There are some compact ones and something like a Sonic Impact T-Amp will work, too.

You migh want to look at a used amp (lots on Audiogon) that you can stick under the desk and maybe use a headphone amp as the preamp. For cheap, good amps, look at the Adcom GFA-535/545/555 models. Designed by Nelson Pass and they'll do a great job of amplifying floorstanders when you get more room.

Ya TA2020, TK2050, etc based T-amps are great for small form factor audio set ups but also vintage/classics like NAD amps also give warm sounding music paired with half decent speakers L3000.gif

So I just bought the onkyo 609 and hook it up with my computer and the RB51s. They work great but just another thought - would the sound quality show noticeable improvement if I get a $200-$300 sound card or DAC instead of the onboard sound card. The motherboard I have is the gigabyte g1 sniper 2, it has the decent Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Digital Audio Processor (20K2) with X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity™ and EAX® AHD 5.0™ Technologies. Just want to know if the improvement would be noticeable/money worth. Thank you guys for the replies so far :D

I would recommend a sound card with rca outputs to allow you to connect with your receiver/amp. Something like the Creative Labs USB X-Fi soundcard is what I have and it works very well. It is light years better than the standard onboard sound.

Not necessarily better but yes a card with rca would be better for connectivity. But I am using spdif cables right now, so it doesn't really matter.
