Help a beginner set up a DAC / Amp.

Hey there, I'll acknowledge that I've looked around but I'm still totally incompetent and want to make sure I'm on the right track before I invest any money so I was hoping you folks could help me out.

Anyway, currently I'm just using an Emu 0404 but I was planning to purchase a Little Dot MKIII.

It's my understanding that Emu > computer USB > connected to the amp, with the headphones plugged into the amp. The MKIII has RCA out on the back so I would use an rca to 1/4" and plug that into the headphone socket on the emu0404 right?

Let me know if I'm off or if I have the right idea, also could you link me the cable I would need to connect the amp and DAC, I've had bad experiences with cabling. Thanks.

I recommend the Headroom Total Bithead.  It is a DAC and headphone amp all in one, but does not have tubes to repair / replace.  It is smaller than the MK II and posts much better total harmonic distortion numbers.

Computer --> USB --> Bithead --> Headphones

Get a DACport or a TTVJ portable with DAC (depends if you want a battery or just an USB dac/amp).
