Best schiit amp for AKG K701

I am trying to decide whether to get the lyr or the valhalla for my akg k701's. I have read that the lyr pairs well with it, and I have also heard good things about the valhalla. Does anyone have any first hand experience comparing the two?

Definitely go for the Lyr. Valhalla is an OTL design and therefore drives high impedance headphones well. The Valhalla is no slouch at driving the K701 however the Lyr performs even better. You should know that the K701 are rather difficult headphones to drive and picky about amps.

Until a month or two ago, the Valhalla page in the Schiit site endorsed the Valhalla + k701 couple... Then they changed it, I think just to make not too much confusion on the fact that commonly OTL amps drive high impedance headphones better.

Lyr may be overkill, but it depends on the sound you are looking for.

The Valhalla + 701 combo was one I liked quite a bit at our Head-fi meet down here earlier this year. I'm sure the Lyr is a good match as well, but the Valhalla really warmed up the 701 and made it sound great.

I was thinking the same. However, after contacting Schiit themselves, they also recommended the Lyr for the K701. In a way, i dont mind analytical sound at all, however, i do prefer my K701s to be slightly warmer.
