Need headphones, $100 budget (will buy used)

My past experience with headphones is pretty limited. I used to have a pair of Bose around ear headphones that I thought were pretty good (got them as a gift). I'm currently using a Sony MDR-V600 which is also a closed headphone but the sound seems rather dull and there is a lot more leakage compared to the Bose.

Since I haven't had much experience with headphones I don't really have that much of a preference as far as open vs closed headphones goes. I'm leaning more towards a closed headphone to help lessen the outside noise though.

I will be using these headphones for everything;
50% Gaming
40% Music
10% Movies

Note: I am not a bass fanatic but I don't want a pair of dull sounding headphones.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: After further researching my options I'm a bit overwhelmed so I'm going to post a list of all the headphones I'm considering and start slimming the list down one by one.

I have the AD700s, and I think that they are excellent for some types of music. They really don't have much bass impact, but you can hear the bass notes, and the bass is well controlled.

 

The AD700s have a very wide soundstage, but it doesn't really have much depth to it. I still find this type of soundstage enjoyable.

 

Could I ask what you mean by "stale"?

By stale I mean dull or boring.

picaqiu - the Grado's are not even close to what I'm looking for...did you even read the OP?

I've read the OP multiple times now and no where does it mention anything that would discount the SR60i or SR80i. While they might not be the best for imaging (i.e., gaming), they do excel with certain genres of music and are far from stale.

 

That said, what will be your main listening genres when it comes to music?

Sounds like Grado is a good fit. What's the problem? Did you even write what you're looking for properly in the OP?

The Grado's are terrible for gaming which is what I'll be doing 50% of time time. The rest will be listening to music and watching videos. The Grado's are known to excel in rock and metal but not too much else.

Sounds like you are already set on the dt 770, the 250ohm will likely be best for you. I just recently got a pair of AKG K 240 Studios, $98 new on amazon. Semi-open can, very comfortable. Not super strong bass, but present. Good for all genres imo, unless you want tons of bass for hip-hop but I found them to sound good.

Grado sounds nice when I game. Sure, not as good as an AD700, but that's not $100. What Grado models have you tried before?

 

Edit: Yes it is, I was thinking of the AD900. I try too many cans.

I doubt you'll find a used pair for around $100...tell us which kind of music you like?  

What about JVC models, such as the RX700's/900's? 

 

 

For $100 i'd buy a pair for gaming strictly, and another one for music. Just a thought.

The AD700s are far from dull, they give me ear fatigue often. I think that they would be a good choice for you, if you don't care about bass impact.

You could also look at the Panasonic RP-HTF600 + Beyerdynamic velour pads (~$50 total) if you're looking for something with more of a "fun" sound signature.  They've gotten some good reviews for gaming as well.
