An apology to my fellow Head-Fiers

Hi All,

One of the unfortunate realities of spending too much time in a single hobby (and way too much time online..) is that its easy to become a cynical swine, and I accept that I can be overly sarcastic in response to some of the newbies on HeadFi. Its only when you see the 'mirror' held up by other fora (audio and non-audio) that you begin to realise just how caustic things can get. Without moderation, Head-Fi could easily become just another venue for people to call one another <insert expletive here>.

I do reserve the right to give as good as I get (you know who you are  wink.gif), but I will mend my ways and try to hold my proverbial tongue when I see someone foaming at the mouth over a $39 DAC.  Or a $99 'plastic fantastic' from Digizoid  biggrin.gif

Cheers,

estreeter

Cynicism and sarcasm, on Head-Fi? For shame!

I know - hard to believe - what can I say other than

'Hi, I'm estreeter, and I'm a gear-a-holic. Its been 3 days since my last purchase and, man, this is the hardest thing I've ever done ...'

Who'da thunk....????

You should see what passed on the other nameless forum as the norm.

I know - just acknowledging that I can see why some of the moderation here is, ahem, necessary.

On other sites I don't mind it so much, but when people are rude on Head-Fi I tend to take it way personal because I expect better.  Anywhere else on the internet it's pretty inevitable to get called the kind of name they're now making public service announcements about.  On one site I used to visit a lot, it was pretty much the way people spoke to each other whether or not the respect existed between two users.

That said, I don't know what it is that you were guilty of OP, but it's pretty cool that you made this thread.

I still find myself wishing people would evaluate their attitude and Head-Fi persona.  I am glad you've done so.

So many choices and opinions can drive you a bit mad! Sometimes people can talk trash but in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way so make sure to put one of these in your posts tongue.gif  even if you really meant it people won't get as upset....

That's a pretty good idea.  I never use them and I can sometimes be sarcastic and on other forums I have found that it doesn't always carry over well in text.  I'll keep that in mind.
