As a former owner of the 006, I can attest to that.. Being that the 006 & 003 sound very related in terms of signature, there were a few aspects of the 006's sound & presentation I liked more than on the 003.. the soundstaging was one of them.  It's something I could pick out right away, too.  I didn't let my 006 burn in very long so I'm not sure how much the sound might change (if at all).. but considering how impressed I was with it out of the box definitely stands for something.

The actual sound of the FA-003 is very open and sounds like an open headphone design.

The mids are beautifully positioned, front and center right where they should be. Positioning isn’t an issue either as it presents a very accurate soundstage. Soundstage depth is very good as is soundstage width. This in turn makes the FA-003 a very holographic sounding headphone

 

Both are good headphones as far I can tell. The FA-003 seems to be more conformable and less mellow per happens as compared to the FA-006. The way I interpreted your statement is that the FA-003 sounds like you sitting farther back in the audience to the music not as forward you would like.

@LFF, can you please tell me if the DNA Tube amplifier was set to 120 ohm or 28 ohm output impedance when you tried the FA-002w HE? Also can you please tell us if you have tried the O2 with them and what was your impression? Cheer. biggrin.gif

very nice review, these headphones look absolutely beautiful with that wood design. 

 

i wonder how they would perform with a WA2 or a WA6-SE...

My FA-003 woodies works very well with my Glenn designed OTL amp. The wood adds more weight and sticks out more than the stardard FA-003.beyersmile.png

John, I was curious as to who you went to for your woods. I have been putting off ordering these for too long, mostly because of work and fear from the horror stories about GD-Audiobase. Is GD-Audiobase the only source to get them from, by the way? And finally, to anyone who owns the High Edition, how much more does it run you up as opposed to a regular FA-002W? Thanks.

GD-Audiobase is where I got my woodies with three weeks delivery time. It just worked out for me. I have not see the High Edition version anywhere for sale at this time.
