Cant say I noticed a difference in the levels,

but having said that treat this as a fun build rather than an audiophile build, its just not that good, if you want a simple way into tubes go for a starving student they are far superior and an easy build

cheers

I think I'll start with this and save my pennies for the starving student. It's a bit pricier and this is my first attempt at starting from scratch, I'd rather screw one of these up!

Thanks!

Hello,
I built this little amp myself for fun. I was surprisingly pleased with the sound so I decided to tweak it a little. I replaced all the caps with a little better quality, upped the 10uF caps to 22uF (better bass), replaced the resistors with 1% metal film. The tubes don't get hot so I wrapped them in some teflon tubing as well as grommets, then tied them to the board using small Zip ties and hot glue. This did help some with the ringing. It sounds good enough that I carry it around sometimes, even well shielded it is susceptible to interference. It drives my Phiatons well.

Cheers,
Shawn

Sweet!

Thanks for the input!

Yes, I did try damping. It certainly helped, but not enough. Skp is absolutely right about the interference as well, I had forgotten about that. The Starving Student would definitely be more worthwhile. Or, check out the JDSlabs cmoy, that's a nice project with a PCB.

Well, I built a couple of these. I'm building a Millet for my primary, these are fun though. I think I'm going to throw some Wima 0.22uF film caps in place of the input caps/caps between tubes and the IC. I already replaced all resistors in the signal path with metal film. I also swapped the IC for a TS922. I have some low ESR 220uF caps laying around that I got from Beezar. Given that the output voltage is only 3V and those caps are rated at 6.3V, there's no reason I couldn't use them as the output caps, right?
