On October 31st The World Population Will Reach Seven Billion

Thread Starter

The population of the Earth has doubled since 1967. Every twenty minutes 3000 more join us on the planet.

The population is rising by about 78 million people a year and is projected to reach nine billion by 2045.

What are your thoughts as to the population 100 years from now?

100 years from now we'll all be starved and homeless, if we're alive.

Population's not really the problem, it's our use of resources.

9 billion people that are ONLY looking out for themselves... glad I'll be dead.

Jeremy Grantham, Horseman: Population ‘threatens long-term viability of species’

Grantham manages over $100 billion. He predicted the 2008 meltdown years in advance. Now sees danger in the population explosion calling it an “inevitable mismatch between finite resources and exponential population growth.” He expects a “bubble-like explosion of prices for raw materials.” Then commodity shortages will become a huge “threat to the long-term viability of our species when we reach a population level of 10 billion,” making “it impossible to feed the 10 billion people.”

At 7 billion, the Earth already has two billion people too many. And we’re adding 75 million more each year. Meanwhile scientists warn that Earth’s natural resources can reasonably support roughly 5 billion people. Yes, we’re already 2 billion over Earth’s carrying capacity, deep in denial and headed into a disaster. Likely “population reducers?” Forget voluntary birth control. Only wars, famine and starvation.

The only option is mass genocide.

Any ethnicities want to volunteer? I'm not especially partial to Caucasians or Inuits.

Perhaps a bit old fashioned, but, how 'bout : "The Other side sux" 'll do ;')

Where's the Soviet Union when you need them?

North Korea, if you're gonna do something now's the time.

psh..enviromentalists...damn hypocrites.. the population is growing too fast! stop having kids you selfish bastards! (when they're popping out kids themselves like a carbine pops out bullets)

medicine is messing the whole world up! the weak need to die! (diabetics? heart disease?..bad hip? off to the rubbish bin with you!)

say noooo to mass genocide! that destroys bio diversity! what we need is to cull every race of humans, killing one sole race is a giant nono

penicillin? that stuff should be banned (next month when they themselves have a infection, they apply the stuff liberally like the toothpaste ads)

worse then politicians, politicians know when they're lying or serving themselves, enviromentalists seriously think they're doing the right thing...the people who think they are righteous and pure are the most twisted and dark inside.

and those who "urge" (IE: force their ideas onto others) eat organic! I eat organic meats and veggies!

really? why don't you go the next route, instead of eating your organic farm raised methane producing cows, why don't you go buy a bow or a rifle and go hunting/trapping yourself

eat some natural free range deer instead

But that's cruel.

only if you're a poor shot

if you can hit a pie plate groupings at (insert meters) if you can do that, you can kill deer and other animals painlessly in the vital organs

i forgot how they process cattle and other farm animals.. but I'm pretty sure its in one of those tiny cages that force them to lie in their fecal matter and urine until they get dragged into some electrocution chamber (far more humane..i knoww)

Our population and natural resource "problems" are true to a certain extent, but grossly exaggerated. People should do more for the environment, but the situation is not critical... yet.

Also, if there's something that will cause the extinction of the human race, it's not overpopulation or lack of natural resources, it's greed, envy and hate towards one another. The Earth is resilient and has a lot left in it. Disasters now - man made or not - are no different from disasters from thousands or millions of years ago. As the late great George Carlin once put it: The Earth has been through things a lot worse than humans and most likely it will keep going without us at some point in the future. Basically, the planet is fine. It's the people that are ****ed.

I sort of wonder if, at every point in history, people have felt a sense of doom and worried that life on earth or the planet itself were in serious trouble. We look around at all the disasters and environmental abuses and sense the inevitable demise of our planet and species. In the past, I think it was more tied to religion; people looked around and saw all the wicked and evil sinners committing wicked and evil sins and knew that God was going to unleash the rapture any day now. Of course, our current concerns are based on science. That's a key point. But it seems to be in people's ego maniacal nature to believe the world will end in their lifetime. And to be so sure about it. And, so far, so wrong about it. I really don't know. I have a hunch people will be still asking each other this question 500 years from now. I'm sure they asked it 500 years ago and were absolutely sure that the earth and human beings would be long gone by 2011 AD. But here we are asking the question.

The population will stabilize as we reach equilibrium. As the world becomes more industrialized less children will be born. 100 years from now the population should be around 7.5 billion. This is the UN's estimation.

we should fire bomb china and other developing countries

the carbon and ash of the corpses will make great nutrients for trees (this is what enviromentalists think..just reworded not so differently)

Put to many of 1 species in a confined area and watch what happens. Strange things happen. The creatures go rampant and start fighting for resources. Eventually they have fought to the end over the resources that it is not the lack of resources which killed them it was their own greed. My friends this phenomenon is happening in our largest cities right now. This is what equilibrium is. It will not be the end of humanity it will be a natural cause which will weed out the weak and sick rendering the strong left to survive and prosper. Natural selection plays a big part in this matter.
