Hi,

I've recently purchased a pair of Etymotic MC5s, which are fantastic on my home PC as I have Dolby natural bass activated (so I get the clarity of Etymotic IEMs along with a powerful yet controlled bass).

However, I'm thinking of buying a portable source, and I have my eye on the Classic 6 v2 / 6.5 / 7 or whatever the new slim 160GB is called. Just so you have an idea, I like a powerful but tight bass, full and warm low treble (or baritone if you want), well define high treble/vocals, and precise but non-hissy highs.

Can anyone firstly tell me if an amp is worth it (I'm not a keen audiophile who needs to have a £40000 worth of kit with me to listen, but I do like my music to be as immersive as I can get) and secondly, what amp I should get. Bear in mind that I do not want to spend much on an amp - there's no way I'm spending £200 on an amp to power a £100 iPod.

Thanks in advance,

Perplexed.
