Beats Audio

Thread Starter

Whenever I see someone with Beats, I die a little inside.

Why do people keep buying them? Do they actually compare to my Beyerdynamic DT 990 P's? Do their buds compare to my Shure SE 425's?

Thoughts?

Because they have a fun sound signature, look fashionable, and are better than i-buds.

Your thread titles says Beats Audio, so I assumed you were talking about the computer technology and not the headphones. I figure if you like the Beats sound, buy Skullcandy and save some money. They sound similar and are similar in reliability.

Anyway, the Beats Audio technology is a mix of good and interesting. First, it's very clean analog circuitry. Second it's SRS HD Audio Lab (or SRS Audio Essentials) technology for sound enhancements.

I like messing with the SRS HD technology (not their garbage WOW stuff) and I like the analog sound of the beats audio stuff because it is clean, but the small headphone jack still has too much crosstalk for my liking. There is no laptop audio that's better from an analog standpoint.

Anyway, the Beats Audio software is interesting and there's more on it at http://akgk171.wordpress.com/2011/09/11/beats-audio-put-to-the-test/

Who cares? Let people buy what they want. If someone asks you for a recommendation, go ahead and steer them towards the good stuff.

Besides, the Beats are fashion accessories. You wouldn't stop someone and criticize their clothing, would you? Same thing.

We have our own Beats too.

It's called Grado.

I thought the Head-Fi equivalent of Beats were overpriced DACs/Amps, Dynamic Flagships, and Designer Cables.

Exactly. All I worry about is my own gear and how it sounds. If they're listening to crap, that's their problem.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

No, Grados are too much love, a lot less hate. They're no-where near a fashion accessory (quite the opposite, and not in a bad way) and despite some people not liking their sound signature, they're definitely not overpriced or overhyped.

I'd say they're definitely overpriced for what you get. The SR60i is a good buy.

Yes. They are the opposite in that Grado tries as little as possible to look and feel good. Sound-wise, go any model above the SR-80i and you're not getting your money's worth.
