Request: LINDY Premium Hifi vs Fischer FA-003

Well, In my search for a new pair of headphones, I stumbled across these 2 headphones and went "they're awfully similar, aren't they?"

(Pics: http://www.fischeraudio.com/card.php?id=116

Even a worker of LINDY said this: "As far as I know, the FA-003s are identical to ours"

Thing is, they're about 30£ cheaper! so my question is, does anyone own both or can put together an exact comparison of sound output?

Saving 30£ on something this good would be worthwhile!

Where are you seeing the Fischer cans at? I cant find them anywhere in the uk.

TDB Jaster, did you also enquire on avforum? Do you have any updates regarding the two, or any impressions of the FA-003 you'd like to share?

I also contacted Lindy to see what additional information I could get. I was told that Lindy don't tweak anything themselves and they are not aware of an OEM update (Frogbeats have an image of the FA-003 with a complete silver oval, which I think is supposed to be newer than the one with the slight cut out, if that makes sense).

Below is the chart sent to me by Lindy (reproduced with their permission). Maybe someone can make use of it in comparison to the FA-003?

The specs. are

  • 42mm drivers with dynamic, neodymium magnets and CCAW voice coils

  • Sensitivity: 100dB

  • Impedance: 64±15% Ω

  • Frequency response: 10Hz - 26KHz

  • Power handling capacity: 100mW

  • Nominal THD: <0.2% at 1KHz

I also emailed Fischer Audio regarding 'tuning' and revisions but have yet to hear back.

So, any more info anyone? I may have to cross-post but we'll see how it goes here :-)

From the frequency graph that look quite netruel, the boosted bass and treble will be noticable though, they look better than most headphones that roll off the treble past 10khz and bass past 40hz, there be quite easy to drive aswell and might not require amping, I might buy a pair myself they look pretty good.

There simlar but I found some differences, the fischer's are more sensitive at 105 dB, and can handle more power 120mW, it's makes the fischers a tiny bit easyer to drive but also suggests the parts used in the headphones the drivers might be different or fischer have lied a bit with there spec.

@Anoobis Yeah I did -  I was getting quite desperate so I posted on about 4 places :P I never made any progress with the comparison, but I LOVE my FA-003s - People touch them without permission at own risk :P

They're very precise and have a good bass response (compared to what I'm used to anyway). They block out pretty much all sound from the outside and I can listen to them at almost max volume in a library if I so wish; the isolation is really great. They've really made me crave FLAC files because it's such a treat to listen to!

I'd like to find a shorter cable for them, but that's my only quarrel with them :P

You're correct in saying that they changed the plates - I have the version with the complete oval, it looks really nice! (didn't know it was silver though? o.o)

@JRG do you happen to have a frequency graph of the FA-003 lying about? I'd love to see it and compare it to others! :)

Nope but I assume it's the same or very simlar to the lindys, the lindy's look like just a rebrand of the old version of the FA-003 and I think there exactly the same, the new version of the FA-003 has slightly different cups and a slightly different spec.

Re: the plates, I just meant metal-ish colour, not actual silver! bigsmile_face.gif

The graphs don't look too different to me and it may be that the treble differences are in part due to fewer measurements in that region on the FA graph? I've yet to look up the 'old' FA-003 specs, maybe they do match Lindy's. I've not noticed a a big fuss about the new FA-003 vs old, so perhaps there's nothing in it? According to the FA-003 thread, the only changes are cosmetic.

Still not heard back from Fischer frown.gif

Ah, thanks for clearing that - it did seem a bit weird to use actual silver xD

fyi, you can't compare graphs made by different people on different equipment.  It would be like having someone else try on pants for you.

Also, Fischer does a fair amount of OEM work (i.e. the FA-011 bears a strong resemblance to a Turtle Beach headset), so it could be that they're the OEM for the enclosures on the Lindys.  This doesn't mean that they necessarily use the same drivers though.

@rhythmdevils, I supposed I'd assumed general comparisons would be okay but you're right, there's nothing to validate them.

@LimeANight, I think the consensus was that Fischer and Lindy have a common OEM, not that Fischer is an OEM. I don't think anyone could confirm whether the drivers were the same or not. Do you know differently?

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at.  I don't know whether the drivers are the same or not, but I kinda doubt it.
