asio not bypassing the windows mixer?

i have an issue that i've been ignoring for far too long. whenever i'm playing my files thru foobar asio, i'm still able to control the volume through windows volume control in the task bar. is this how it's suppose to be or should i start troubleshooting? also i notice that the sound quality on this computer (desktop) is not as good as my netbook which does bypass the windows volume control when asio is active.

I use asio4all with Foobar and WMP11.  In both the  windows volume control works normally, and the green shortcut appears next to the clock in task bar.  I heard a slight improvement in sq.

What OS are you using?

If it is XP try http://www.audialonline.com/html/articles/kmixer/

If it is Win7 try WASAPI instead of asio4all (is not asio, it is Kernel Streaming)

this is how mine was setup, and as the article says if it's working properly the windows volume control is bypassed. well, mine is clearly not then. :/

Here, WMP11 volume control  is bypassed, while Foobar´s not !  So, I think maybe things are not as simple. It seems there is much space between Direct Sound and full Kmixer bypass.

Where did you read that?

To check whether you were successful in this or not, open the Mixer. Make sure that you choose USB Audio DAC and not some other device you may possibly have in the system; you can switch between Mixer Devices using the Options > Properties menu in the Mixer window. If all is done well, moving the slider Wave should have no effect on the playback volume.

If the master volume control disturbs you too much you can bypass the whole kmixer by disabling the mixer device through device manager (you should know that audio stream itself does not go through this control ...).

Sure there are audio interfaces which drivers can bypass the master volume control as well ... I happen to have one old interface from ESI (DuaFire).

If you want to make absolutely sure then disable the onboard sound via your BIOS - not an ideal solution but it will certainly work. However, the previous poster's suggestion that you disable it via the control panel should do the trick.

ah, i actually only glanced over the article. wave volume does get bypassed with mine, so i guess i'm in the clear.
