Hi everyone.
This is my first Head-Fi post and I'm a complete noob, and I'm looking for some guidance.
My headphones of choice are AKG K701s, which apart from the dents the headband put in my bald noggin, I really love.
My high-end main system is in a dedicated room at the end of the garden (yes I'm lucky) but I frequently want to listen to a bit of music while up in the house and headphones are featuring more and more.
My source is my Macbook, which I use to access my digital music. I manage using iTunes but listen using Audirvana as I find it's far better for playback, especially as it deals with different sampling rates automatically. It also means I'm mobile as I can move between sofas rather than being attached to a desktop rig.
All my music is lossless, with a mostly 16/44 CD rips, but with and increasing amount of 24bit music of various sample rates, but most 88.2 or 96
My *simple* question is what is my best, reasonably priced option to add a portable amp rather than use the headphone socket on the Macbook? I'm thinking that a USB DAC/amp would work best but can any of the more reasonably priced portable units handle high-res files or will I not be able to listen to my high-res files?
I have tried looking on both the Fiio and iBasso sites and can't see anything about whether any of their DAC/amps can accept high-res via USB.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Steve
