Finally have the money to throw down for my first turntable, and these are my choices. The tech1200 is used with some surface wear, but should be in good working shape otherwise, I'll probably throw a Shure M97xE on it. The Rega Planar 3 has the new and renowned rb300 tonearm and I'll probably put an Ortofon 2M Red on it.
Music taste wise, I listen to a lot of progressive metal, rock, shoegaze with some classical to mix it up now and then. A huge range, but what's important to me is instrumental clarity and separation and hard hitting controlled bass.
Any insight on preferences one way or another? Upgrade path is something to be considered as well, the Rega has the incognito wire mod and the Technics has a crazy amount of mods available to it.
