Using SPDIF/Digital Coax from Onboard Motherboard

This may be a yet another one of those novice questions, but I have not been able to find a straightforward answer in my research. Long story short, I used to use the coaxial/optical S/PDIF out of an Asus Xonar Essence STX card, until adding a second video card made this an impossibility.

I have the following motherboard: Asus p8z68 Deluxe, which has an "Absolute Pitch 192kHz/24-bit True BD Lossless Sound" audio feature and has a coaxial and optical S/PDIF out ports at the back of the panel.

I've read some very conflicting material regarding on-board audio, and sadly many of them are outdated, and I do not believe reflect the nature of today's high end motherboards. As I am awaiting the construction of an amplifier to go along with my Vioelectric V800 DAC which I intend to connect to my PC, I am left wondering if I should be scrambling for a better sound card that can be connected to my computer via USB? Keep in mind that V800's USB connection does not allow for 24 bit 192 kHz input and because I do intend to watch some DVD/Blu-Rays on my computer, this is not the most ideal path for me to take.

In summary, I am wondering if my onboard sound card is good/sufficient enough to output digital signal to the my DAC?

After doing some serious searching -- I'm thinking about the following arrangement:

   Computer - (USB) > Musiland monitor 03 - (Digital output) > V800 DAC - (Balanced) > Amplifier.

Versus the alternative:

   Computer On board Realtek ALC 889 - (Digital coax/SPDIF) > V800 DAC - (Balanced) > Amplifier

Any thoughts?

i believe adding a musiland monitor will probably produce better sound than using the onboard but i would probably say try it out with the current mobo's onboard and see if its any good after doing some tweaks with ASIO/WASAPI. I believe most of the time its the windows audio service causing quality issues.

I've been using soundcards with x-fi chip since forever though so I can't really comment much on onboard quality these days (except for bluescreening me every once in a while during my "transition" period)
