Karnivool (for fans of Tool, Dredg, Cave-In, etc.)

Been meaning to pick something up from these guys for years now-finally got around to getting "Themata" and am really enjoying it.

I am always looking for interesting prog-rock/metal in the same vain as Tool, Dredg, Cave-In, etc.

Karnivool is quite obviously influenced by all of the above bands but what really got me was their limited yet effective usage of djent-styled riffs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djent).

Maybe theyre fans of Meshuggah too?

Good stuff; highly recommended.

Im bumping this just in case people on here have not heard of this fantastic band from Australia.

"Themata" is a perfect, prog-rock/metal album. Check it out!

I'll check them out.

Would you put Oceansize in the "for fans of..." list too?

Absolutely.

I love Oceansize but Karnivool tends to be a bit more upbeat with more metal-like influence.

That said, they write some of the most addictive hooks and melodies that I have heard in a long time.

The Australians are pumping out some serous talent in the prog-rock/metal space. Look into Cog and The Butterfly Effect as well.
