I have these in several sizes, and what I like about them is that if you use one in a backpack or messenger bag , it keeps your gear from just bunching up at the bottom of the bag. (And it also helps keep your gear from bumping against each other.) The Grid-It also makes makes swapping from one bag to another very quick.
Downside? The big Grid-It sizes (like the one I'm holding in the photo on The Audio Beat) can be a bit heavy.
They sell them at OfficeMax and they're brilliant devices. When I was more into portable systems I actually used one as well.
Keep things nice and organized...Biggest benefit for me (as Jude mentioned) was the fact nothing piled up on one side. Weight was always nicely distributed.
