Best $200-300 Headphones

Hey,

Im looking for a good pair of comfortable 200-300 dollar headphones.  I listen to rap, rock, pop and techno and am NOT a basshead.  My current headphones are the Denon D1100's which are reasonable but broke within 6 months, that's why im trying to buy new ones.  Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?  I'm in Australia so I'll be looking to get the headphones of ebay because everything in Australia is extremely overpriced.  So preferably a comfortable headphone with a minimal amount of sound leakage and it should be able to be run well on an ipod using FLAC Player or a Cowon D2.

Cheers,

Isaac

if youre willing to go with iem's you could get etymotic er4. though you really cant be a bass head to stand these iem's, but if you can survive the lack of bass these are some of the most detailed iem's out there. i listen to rock and have the er4's and im verry pleased with them. best headphones ive ever owned and you can sometimes find them for under 100 on ebay (i did biggrin.gif ) finaly being iem's they obvousley dont leak noise and the ety's have probably the best iscolation out there.

Edit: WARNING i forgot to mention these iem's are a bit of a LOVE or HATE headphone so  try your best to see if you can test them first. happy hunting o2smile.gif

Check Shure SRH-940.

Given your emphasis on NOT basshead, I think any potential subjective experience of recessed midbass won't bother you.  As a consensus that seems to be the only weakness of this headphone in regards to sound signature.

I don't find the bass all that recessed.  You can check the thread here on the forum to decide for yourself... they got quite a bit of praise/criticism right out of the gate.

I really prefer them with an amp, but they work just fine unamped.  I guess what I mean to say is that they scale really well with an amp, but they don't necessarily need one - even if they really want one
