Apple's incredible arrogance - Page 6

My girlfriend had a first gen 15" macbook pro that after 2 years it started killing the hard drive after 3 months. 2 hard drive replacements later the apple csr said that if it breaks again they would replace it and it broke. We were expecting a refurb machine but the csr just told us to go to the apple store and that they had a brand new unibody macbook pro waiting for us. So not only did they replace it but gave us the most current model. If that's not great customer service I don't know what is. The only PC company I have experienced this kind of customer service with is Lenovo with a Thinkpad.

Yeah that is lucky. Dell gave me a refurbished Alienware Area 51 to replace my XPS 730 due to constant Nvidia Mobo failures. I avoid Nvidia like the plague now. You could never tell though that the Alienware was refurbished. Looks brand new and I got upgraded to an i7, dual ATI 6870's, 6 gigs of ram. All free of charge due to warranty.

I have a 1998 ThinkPad 380 that's still going no parts replaced, a 1999 ThinkPad 570 still going strong, a 2001 ThinkPad X20, A21m and T22 they are still going as well and so is my 2002 A30p, this one as actually still being used quite a lot.

ThinkPads usually last longer then you would want to use them.

My 12" G4 Powerbook is still a pretty good music server.

Cool, those classic IBM PowerPC processors made those old Mac's something truly special.

If we are talking 'music server' Macs, for me its hard to beat the older Mac Mini - I sold my last one 18 months ago to a guy who told me he has never bought a new Mac Mini : he just hammers pre-loved gear (music, movies etc) until he needs another one. I'm not too fussed on the current model - I like the convenience of a CD-drive in the my computers.

You can get small form factor PCs, but they dont 'disappear' the way the Mac Mini does.
