Guys, can we please try to avoid the personal attacks, particularly on a dead man. I didn't worship at the Altar of Steve either, but I'm prepared to let the man rest in peace. The images of an incredibly frail individual in the weeks leading up to his death couldnt have given even his most trenchant critics any joy.

The one and only Steve, is great, anyone notice Apple's stock price at his death?!?! Probably.

Steve-o Ballmer on the other hand... Anyone notice his ten year run with a $30ish stock price? Probably not, why? Because nobody gives a rip about MS at a societal level, it's like getting hot and bothered about automated teller machines, they're everywhere yet who really cares who makes them?

Apple is a greedy company, among the most greedy probably, but they deliver an excellent product. Apple has helped change how people think about technology, integrating it more and more into our lives and always remembering that technology should SERVE US.

I have to agree.

Oh, gee, it’s the latest bobbing for Apple party.

(How amazingly boring.)

My iPad 2 works perfectly. On the other hand I've suffered with Windows since I was a kid, unfortunately my parents just didn't know any better and didn't get me a real computer. It's something I've struggled with my entire life... ;-)

The people having issues with windows are computer illiterate. I have yet to,

Suffer a blue screen

experience incompatible software

get viruses

etc.

I want a mac for the hardware. I don't want osx. When i buy a macbook pro i will be installing windows on it.

Say what you will but windows is convenient. Also i feel the whole OSX GUI looks like utter crap. Grey grey and more grey. Boring.

Off topic, but that's pretty stupid to get a Mac then, since Boot Camp introduces it's own host of issues as well. If you want a Windows laptop, don't get a Mac.

The hardware. I want a mac for the hardware.

If i buy a windows machine its kind of pointless when i have 2. But 90% of windows based laptops fail and have very little support. I want something with support and good reliable quality. And don't say asus or lenovo.

Well this is off topic, but this particular topic doesn't really have anywhere to go anyway.

I've been running Windows on a Macbook for about 5 years now. Windows seems faster and more responsive than OSX. There are 1 or 2 quirks you have to adjust to (mostly remapping the keys to make them more useful), but that is it. I recently installed Windows 7 on it and popped a 750GB drive in and it's working brilliantly. I was a Mac only guy years ago. I tried to like OSX but the mouse acceleration curves drive me insane as does Apple refusal to make them adjustable. I'd recommend anyone who wants to run Boot Camp to go for it.

Good to know. I might have to run Windows soon to use drivers for particular hardware.

My idea is to DIY a machine with Windows 7. Though I think I'll keep it strictly off the Internets lest it be infected.

Never had a virus either wink.gif

It's very easy to dual boot. There is even a system tray icon that lets you choose to reboot to the other system. The only downside is that dual systems eat a bit more hard drive space.

Windows has come a long way in terms of virus resistance, you pretty much have to invite the virus in to get infected.

So as long as you have the most basic antivirus and think before you click, you'll be fine, I haven't had a virus in 8 years.

Let's be honest here. 99% of people get viruses looking up ****. That's just about the only part of the internet still loaded with trojans.

TL;DR don't support anything that is overly closed-system, imho.
