The big Mad Lust Envy thread on gaming on consoles with Dolby Headphone should answer all your questions nicely.

And before you think of dismissing Dolby Headphone and stereo headphones/headsets with only two drivers, your Razer Megalodon works on a very similar principle, if perhaps a slightly different binaural filter.

well i would recommend the ad700, they are probably more comfortable than the megaladon im not sure though.  but theyre mainly pc gaming phones.  there are the plantronics gaming headphones but im not sure how comfortable they are.

Check the PC360's. Accurate with a nice bass response. Just the perfect amount.

No, it uses 3.5mm TRS jacks. Pretty much everything in the aforementioned Mad Lust Envy thread and here does. Just plug it into an Astro Mixamp, and you're good to go.

The Ear Force DSS will give you the same Dolby Headphone effect with any standard stereo headphone, but it's said to have more hiss on its output than the Mixamp. In addition, it doesn't handle voice chat mixing like the Mixamp does.

If you can do without the voice chat feature, you can probably save a bit of cash by going with the Ear Force DSS.

due to the region i live in its hard to get any astro products unless i order them online and so on. However theres a store thats selling TB stuff so its more convenient for me to get the DSS.

- is it true about the hissing? i usually play in a dead quiet room so i dont need to crank up my volume

- voice chat feature as in game/chat balance right? can i simply plug any mic to my 360 controller and have my mic function? if mic works i dont mind adjusting the game and chat volume manually.

so to double check:

TV ------HDMI------- Xbox 360 -------optical cable------- DSS ------earphone cable -------- (for example) HD598

xbox 360 controller ------any mic

i would get these.  the reviewer said that they have a better soundstage than the ad700 and it has more detail then them.  i would highly suggest these.  i am going to get a pair myself i think just for gaming.

I've had the DPX21 for a couple months, I hated it very much.

It does not have big earcups, in fact they're supra-aural.  Even though clamping force is very minimal, I personally had a pressure point on the top of the headband, and the supra-aural fit with the vinyl pads made my ears ache after a while.  The comfort was not very good.

Other than comfort, the sound was abysmal as well.  Not only does the DSS hiss, but the built-in proprietary inline amp of the PX21 hisses as well, this makes for a super hissy product.  Their bass is there in quantity, but it isn't very impactful, and overall the sound is rather muddy with a subpar soundstage.

AD700 would fit all of your bills, but it's not bass heavy.

That Samson headphone with an earforce DSS would most likely be your best bet.  If you had the ability to get the Mixamp online, I would really get it.

get the Samson SR850 and the new E10 amp.  i guarantee you will enjoy it very much.  forget the ad700.  at first i was wowed by them, but since then there have been way more headphones out there.  they still lie at the top for gaming because of their directional and soundstage size, but the SR850 seem to be even better than them and their bass has to be better.  the ad700 has zero bass and believe me when i say that.  the new e10 amp is pretty amazing though at the 80 they are still asking for it.  try searching the e10 forum for good spots to get it for cheap.  i highly suggest it over the earforce amp, even if it doesnt have 5.1 capabilities.  the sr850 will be more than enough surround sound for your games and the e10 will make just everything sound better and cleaner and maybe add bass to the sr850 if it needs it.  for a little over 100 you can get an awesome setup with the SR850 and the E10.  you'd pay just as much for the ad700 and its no where near the amount of goodness you will get with this combo.  look at the SR850 on my link above the post above me.  then go to mp4nation.net and see if the e10 is still on sale.  thank me later when your number one on your team deathmatch team.

I disagree with that, half the magic for gaming comes from the dolby headphone that DSS or Mixamp has, especially when the OP is specifically looking for it.

well we all have our opinions.  i had the ad700 hooked up to a surround sound card creative xtrememusic and i noticed no different much in the soundstage when it came to positioning enemies, etc.  i think the e10 will help bring more detail to the SR850 than a mixamp or something with 5.1 would.  i still think the SR850 alone would be enough for any game out there now and im safe to say that without even testing it.  just from what i know about amazon and the ad700 i can safely say the sr850 would be an awesome headphone for gaming.  i might just get one myself because the phones i have now are mainly for music/movies.

That's an interesting experience.  For me, dolby headphone has been the best judge of a headphone's natural soundstage.  The better the headphone's natural soundstage, the larger it got with dh for me.  Some things like cheap earbuds actually got smaller, while some things like the M50 stayed the exact same.  The AD700 got the biggest boost out of them all.  AD700 also never benefited from an amp-- even when it came to details or soundstaging, so using an amp for dh was the only logical choice.  I can't comment about the Samson's benefit from a proper amp as I've no experience with it.
