CMoyBB stereo separation issue

Hi all -

I've been reading the forums for a while and the information here is amazing.   Really great stuff.

I just built a CMoyBB using John's board.  It more or less works, but I have a strange issue and am hoping someone will have some ideas.

I only have stereo separation if I put a finger under the board where the left channel resistor and opamp connections are.  When I do that, it sounds amazing - big soundstage and lots of separation.  If I let go, it seems to go to mono.

Reflowed some solder on those connections and no change.  Any ideas?  Should I desolder and resolder everything?  I'm using a DIP socket for the chip, btw.

Thanks!

It seems you've got a problem, just what it is is the question. Going from stereo to mono sounds like a short across the opamp inputs. Look for a thread of wire or solder string. I don't know the board, but it's going to be where the signals are close together and exposed.

It could be the outputs shorting together. I wouldn't desolder everything though, approach it in an analytical fashion and try and figure out the likely cause. For example, the power connections are unlikely to be at fault, not much point in interfering with them, you might introduce a second fault.

Thanks for responding.

I went back last night and looked for anything shorting together.  Found nothing.  Also took some isopropyl to the bottom of the board again, with no change.

The strange thing is that just touching it makes it work fine.  Almost like added capacitance from you hand sometimes changes radio reception if you touch the antenna.

I have 2 other opamps I'll try.  Another other ideas are welcome.

Thanks!
