Many thanks.  Did you get a chance to compare the Grado RS1i with PS500?

As far as I could tell the RS1 was not present. I did not see it at least.

@Maxvla: Thanks for the quick impressions. Did you just get the UERMs?

Yes. My goal for the trip was picking out customs, which I did. I'm saving up money for Lasik surgery next so no more money to spend while in Denver. I should have the UERMs in about a week to two weeks. I went with clear left red translucent right with carbon fiber faceplates and white big UE on left and red big UE on right. Should look something like this but with UE stuff:

The UE saleslady said carbon fiber was a rare choice and that she'd be using pics of mine on their site so I'll at least have some high quality pics to show people cause my camera and skills are very poor lol.

I haven't read the whole thing but its great so far.  I can't help but think that Ray wasn't playing fair with that Boulder source. Smart move on his part, though.

Yes but you'll also notice my #5 rig was using the same Meridian that was in evidence at multiple tables.

Crazy awesome post! Thanks!

I agree 100% with the quote below and I'm also wondering how much you loved Ray's amps vs. how much you loved Ray's source. :)

Thanks for all that effort! I enjoyed your impressions greatly.

I wonder how much the Dark Star was helped by its $24,000 source? IMO imaging has a lot to do with source quality as well as the amp.

I did cover that at the end of my post. I can't know for sure of course, but I know it helped. I don't think it helped enough to make Ray's amps not the best, though.

Something to test at the next CanJam, eh?

In any case, thanks again for taking the time to make this awesome post.

Goal of next CanJam is to find the best amp for my UERMs. After that if I have room for the amp or can even bring it, will be DACs. One year at a time for each component. Time will tell if I pick up a full size setup again.

Terrific post Chris! Your classical training & experience shows through.

Could you elaborate on your Audez'e source comment - were all the LCD2 and 3 phones affected by poor source the first two days? Or just the LCD3?

If so, this might partly explain differing impressions of the LCD3 - and in that case, what a mistake on Audez'e's part!

The only 'poor' source was the iPod on the Eddie Current 2a3 and LCD3 setup. The output voltage is just too low to give to a medium power amp to feed to a current hungry headphone. They switched to a Luxman D-05 and it was perfectly fine then.
